A private studio built around your piece
I love tattooing. I run a private studio in Renton, WA, and every session is one-on-one — just you and me, working together to bring your idea to life. There is no front-desk shuffle and no sharing the room. The whole appointment is built around your piece.
I started tattooing in 2010 and have spent most of that time focused on black-and-grey portraits, where the work is all about contrast, depth, and patience. I also love doing traditional work and lettering. Whatever you bring in, the goal is the same: do the job right, keep the work clean, and make something that still looks good years from now.
Because the studio is appointment-only, the calendar is intentionally limited. That keeps each booking unhurried and means the detail in a portrait gets the time it actually needs.
This site exists so you can see the work and book directly — especially if you are not on social media. Everything you need to decide is here: real healed and fresh photos, how the process runs, and a simple way to send your idea and reserve a time.
What I tattoo
Black & grey portraits
Portraits are the heart of the work — faces, pets, and the people who matter, rendered in black-and-grey. This style lives or dies on smooth gradients and accurate contrast, so it rewards careful planning and a steady, unrushed session. Healed examples on the portfolio page show how the grey settles once the skin has fully recovered.
Traditional
Bold lines, strong composition, and designs built to age well. Traditional work is about clarity — pieces that still read cleanly from across the room decades after they are done.
Lettering & script
Names, dates, quotes, and script. Lettering is deceptively technical: spacing, flow, and placement on the body all decide whether it stays legible as it heals and ages. I plan lettering around the part of the body it lives on.
How booking works
- 01
Send an inquiry
Tell Tony what you have in mind — subject, rough size, placement, and any reference images. Text is the fastest way to reach the studio. The body-map on the booking page helps you mark exactly where the piece will go.
- 02
Consultation
For most work, Tony books a short one-on-one consultation to talk through the design, placement, and how the idea translates into black-and-grey. This is where the piece gets planned before any needle touches skin.
- 03
Reserve with a deposit
A $100 non-refundable deposit secures your appointment time. Because the studio is one-on-one and appointment-only, that reserved time is held just for you.
- 04
Your session
On the day, it is just you and Tony in a private studio. Larger portraits may run across multiple sessions so the work is never rushed and the detail holds up.
- 05
Aftercare
You leave with clear aftercare guidance. How you care for a fresh tattoo over the first few weeks is a big part of how cleanly it heals and how the black-and-grey settles over time.
Fresh & healed
The portfolio shows work both fresh and fully healed, so you can see how a piece looks the day it is finished and how it settles months later. There is also a dedicated set of black-and-grey portraits. Photos are real client work — never stock.
See the PortfolioWhat to expect
Good black-and-grey is a collaboration, not an assembly line. The consultation is where most of that work happens: we talk through your idea, look at references, and figure out the size and placement that will let the piece breathe and hold detail as it heals. For portraits, a clear, high-quality photo makes an enormous difference in the final result.
On the day of your session, plan to be comfortable — eat beforehand, wear clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed, and give yourself enough time that nothing feels rushed. Larger pieces are built in stages on purpose; pushing skin too far in one sitting is how detail gets lost.
Seeing healed work matters more than seeing fresh work alone. A fresh tattoo always looks crisp; a healed one tells you how the artist's lines and grey actually settle over months. That is why the portfolio shows both side by side, and why honesty about how a piece will age is part of every consultation here.
Common questions
- How do I book a tattoo with Tony Raz?
- Start by sending an inquiry through the booking page or by texting the studio with your idea, rough size, and placement. Tony will follow up to plan the piece, set up a consultation when one is needed, and reserve your appointment time with a deposit.
- Is a deposit required?
- Yes. A $100 non-refundable deposit secures your appointment. Because the studio is one-on-one and appointment-only, your session time is held specifically for you once the deposit is placed.
- What tattoo styles does Tony specialize in?
- Tony has focused on black-and-grey portraits since 2010, and also tattoos traditional work and lettering. If you are unsure whether your idea suits black-and-grey, that is a good thing to raise during your consultation.
- How much does a tattoo cost?
- Cost depends on the size, placement, and level of detail of the piece, so there is no flat price list. Tony discusses what your specific idea involves during the consultation. The $100 deposit is separate and reserves your appointment.
- Is the studio private, and do you take walk-ins?
- The studio in Renton is private and appointment-only — there are no walk-ins. Every session is one-on-one, so you are not sharing the space or Tony’s attention with other clients.
- How should I care for my new tattoo?
- Tony sends you home with specific aftercare instructions for your piece. In general, keeping a fresh tattoo clean, moisturized, and out of direct sun during the first few weeks protects the linework and helps black-and-grey heal evenly.
- Can I bring my own reference or design?
- Yes — references help a lot, especially for portraits, which are usually tattooed from a clear photo of the person or pet. Bring whatever you have: photos, sketches, or examples of work you like. Tony will tell you honestly how well an idea will translate into black-and-grey and what adjustments make it read well on skin.
- Will my tattoo take more than one session?
- It depends on the size and detail. A small piece can often be finished in a single appointment, while larger or highly detailed portraits are usually split across multiple sessions so the work is never rushed and your skin has time to recover between visits. Tony maps this out with you during the consultation.
